It’s time for part three of Tim Marston’s (howtosellyouract.com) series on how to be a successful hoop performer. If you haven’t read part one or part two then I suggest reading them now. Here’s Timmy…
Publicity material is vital for any act that wants to do well. Fortunately for you, hoops are very photogenic which means good photos and videos of hooping are relatively easy to get.
In some ways good publicity material is almost more important than a good product. It is not uncommon for people to get a good costume and idea for an act together, then have photos done without actually having the completed act. This way they can see how well it sells and finish it off properly when the bookings start to come in.
As with the other articles, I’m going to break this down into sections then expand on each individual section. Publicity material can fall in four main categories.

Here’s a TED Talk from back in July 2010 where Miwa Matreyek combines shadow dancing with animation. What has this got to do with hooping you might ask? Well there’s a bit at 8:12 where she’s clearly thinking about hoop. Okay maybe I’m reaching a little here. I just thought it was beautiful and interesting so I thought I’d post it.
I’ve decided not to embed it because the player seems to work better if you visit the actual webpage which is here. It’s also worth exploring some of the other TED Talks as well if you get a chance.
